The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office announced on Tuesday, Feb. 13 that its major crimes unit is looking for the relatives and friends of James “Crab Daddy” Whiting Jr. He was born in 1916 and died in 2011.
The FBI is helping the county prosecutor's office in identifying the remains of a woman found in Mullica Township back on Tuesday, July 19, 1988. According to state police, her remains were recovered in a swamp near Elwood-Weekstown Road, and she was a homicide victim.
The woman is believed to be Black and born between 1953 and 1963. She was an estimated 5'2" and gave birth at least once in her lifetime.
Whiting Jr. is believed to be the biological father of the unknown woman. He lived and worked in the Atlantic City and Pleasantville area.
Authorities are looking for help identifying the person Whiting had a child with or figuring out who the woman is. Anyone with information should contact the county prosecutor's office or the FBI.
